Having read Nigel Lewis's thread on Geoff Lumsden he mentions that Nobby has also passed to the green fields beyond which comes as a shock to me.
We were in C&S Sqn together then moved to A Sqn for Omagh. Nobby was an inoffensive guy who lived for the good and easy life and I don't think I ever saw him lose his temper once. I recall christmas '76 in Herford, I had a christmas eve party in my pad at Enger and had made a 5 gallon batch of home-brew. Nobby thought it was the same strength as Herforder and despite my warnings that it was alot stronger, he drank about 6 pints in a couple of hours only for it to make a reappearance on my newly-laid hallway carpet tiles - Carol and I were not best pleased and the smell never fully dissipated but whichever bar you're in up there Nobby, you're forgiven mate beerz

Not fully sure of all my facts on this one but as I remember the story......
Nobby set of for UK on 2 occasions with the intent of getting married to an American lady he had known for several years. On each occasion he was distracted from his mission, once in London and once in Amsterdam, by his intended best man Cpl (Magner) Thompson. I believe he did finally marry the lady after he left the Army.

R.I.P Nobby. Remember going out on the town with Nobby, we both got hammered and came back to camp for a few scoops. We ran out of ale  so Nobby decided to quoff back his collection of aftershaves, Brut, Old Spice. After his 3rd bottle he threw up. Did not smell as bad as what you went through Dave. Funny. he flaked out after that, so we decided to cover Nobby in Brown Boot polish and put black boot polish around his eye's. He woke up the next morning and thought he had been beaten up. So Funny.
Nobby was a great guy

Pete sadly it was the Nobby that you knew, I did hear that he was found dead in his car on a lonely moorside! Sad indeed, he will be missed by all of us. I well remember borrowing his Hillman Hunter GLS and totally buggering up the tuning of the twin weber carbs, He obviously took it out on Daves carpet.
Dinger :(

I heard of his demise when or before I was Sqn Leading so I guess he went about 1986/7.

Dinger - that is an awful thing to hear - I must have known him historically but I have difficulty placing people who were not B Sqn or (ahem) Guardroom. I would hope that if anybody here becomes so depressed that they can come to their extended family and mates and that one of us can offer some support or comfort..
Are you talking of the same Nobby Clarkson that I knew? - wide, short, and from Lancashire?
A full-screw?
He was my ferret commander in Omagh.
Sincere RIP, and kindest wishes to family.

Amen to all of the above, and I don`t know why I have`nt seen this post before, I had heard of Nobbys demise some years ago pre Forum, along with sketchy details, but it does`nt alleviate the impact of reading the account in print, he was my troop leader in Tidworth and then in Herford in G.W. Troop, he used to give me and Danny Coughlin lifts home to Liverpool at weekends in his Gold Hilman Hunter twin carb, not much used to pass us thats for sure, recall one time zooming down the M62 past Burtonwood, and we caught the attention of a parked Police Range Rover, he set off in hot pursuit but got nowhere near us, so he must have radioed ahead and enlisted the help of another vehicle, cos just as we thought we had got away with it, the car in front suddenly lit up like a xmas tree and we had to pull over and wait for the Range Rover to catch up, but we managed to blag him with a sob story about me and Danny having to catch the ferry for N.I. and we wanted to get home to see our Mum and Dad before we went, the goon fell for it and just issued Nobby with a HORT 1, YOU SPEEDING TYPES WILL KNOW WHAT ONE OF THEM IS

Nobby Clarkson's Hillman Hunter was a lovely motor, he was was thrilled with it. I remember asking him if he had had it 'altered' at all to improve performance. Not at all he said, What he did say was that 90% of vehicles will meet the performance levels laid down in the brochure, 5% will fail to meet the required standard and 5% will exceed the performance stated.
Nobby said he was lucky to be in the 5%+ group. I will never forget being in Gus Daniels Hillman Imp on the M6 heading north from Tidworth one Friday night doing 70mph when this Gold "flash" went past with numerous smiling faces and raised didgets on view as it disappeared from view on the outside lane.
